You can read my whole guide to the ice caves here – it has lots of details on the best time to go: https://dawnoutdoors.com/ice-caves-iceland/

Hi Marian,
We stayed in Reykjavik on the first and last days of our trip. If you’re looking for info about the ice caves, I have a whole post about visiting Ice Caves in Iceland:

I have also visited Iceland in late May and early June. It’s not quite summer there at that time – more like spring. However you get almost 24 hour daylight at that time of year which is really cool. I’d love to go again in the summer or in the early fall.

What do you reckon about visiting Iceland in summer or autumn time?

Hi Tania. I’m glad you enjoyed the itinerary. To answer your questions:
1. I don’t have any recommendations for a tour operator as I haven’t taken any organized tours in Iceland. However, my friend Audur is an Icelandic blogger who has done tons of tours. Check out her website I Heart Reykjavik for lots of good recommendations.
2. I did stay at a different hotel or airbnb every night (except for the last few days of trip when we stayed at the same place in Reykjavik for a few nights). It was a bit of a pain to move every day, but we thought it was worth it to see the amount of scenery we saw.
3. You could book a hotel in Reykjavik and then take a south coast tour for one day and a golden circle tour for another day but you would not get to go as far east as Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and the ice caves unless you book a multi-day tour (in which case they will arrange the hotel for you).
Have a great trip.

I enjoyed reading your itinerary, thanks for sharing it with your readers. I’m heading to Iceland in late December as solo traveler. My questions:
1. What do you recommend (tour operator) for traveler who doesn’t drive?
2. Did you stay at different Hotel/Airbnb everynight on each day? Because I got that impression (or was I wrong?)
3. Is it better to book a room/hotel in Reykjavik for a week and then do the south part in a day and back?

Appreciate your reply! Thanks a bunch!

Tania
